Great news! Our local Retired Women’s Teachers Organization (RWTO) has donated an activity resource kit to our community for caregivers of seniors with dementia. These kits include a variety of activities including puzzles, games, art and music activities, ‘fiddle’ pillows or activity aprons plus an interactive companion pet and baby, and also a caregiver resource book. These activities are being showcased at the Day Away programs in communities and can be accessed there or at the Township Library on the off days. Please spread the word to anyone who you think may benefit from this support and let them know they are available for lending. These activity kits were made possible by a successful grant application by the Central Algoma Teachers Support group (CATS), an action group of Central Algoma RWTO. The grant came from the Retired Teachers of Ontario (RTO) to support communities affected by geographical or social isolation. Day Away programs operate in Bruce Station on Tuesdays, Echo Bay at the Elks on Wednesdays, and at the Trefry Centre on Thursdays in Richards Landing. For more information about these kits or The Day Away programs, please contact The Trefry Centre at (705) 246-0036 and ask for Jess or email her at dr.trefrycentre@one-mail.on.ca.
