$99,900 OTF Grant Helps Build Multi-Use Sport Court in Plummer Additional

Plummer Additional, ON – On Friday, November 18th, 2022, local MPP Michael Mantha met with Staff and members of Council from the Township of Plummer Additional to hear more about the $99,900 Community Building Fund – Capital Grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF), received in 2021. The grant was used to retrofit the recreational grounds with a new sports pad, sports equipment, and landscaping to create an accessible & safe multi-sport area. The project is currently in progress, and once finished, will give people in the community improved access to programs and events in Plummer Additional for years to come.

“Northern Ontarians know how important it is for us to get out and, make the most of our sports and recreational facilities,” said MPP Michael Mantha on Friday. Mantha believes such opportunities are essential for everyone’s physical and mental health. He explained that accessing the financial capital, needed for many smaller northern and rural communities, is not always easy. However, such funding is essential to ensure our facilities are safe for everyone, and that our facilities keep pace with growing expectations and technologies. Mantha concluded, “Plummer Additional Township has done an outstanding job making the most of OTF’s generous Capital Grant. I look forward to joining my friends and neighbours at the many events and festivals to come. Hats off to all those who worked so hard to make these improvements a reality.”

The Bruce Station Hall is used by a variety of community organizations for meetings, celebrations, and fundraisers. With the $99,900 grant from the Government of Ontario and the Ontario Trillium Foundation, the outdoor area of the property will be further developed to increase its available uses and allow additional programming and sporting events to be held outside.

“This infrastructure will greatly benefit the residents of this community, as they will now have access to several new recreational activities,” said Mayor Beth West. “It’s the Township’s objective to maximize the use of our grant, with the plan to grow and expand our recreational programming offered in the Township over the next few years. We want to ensure that our residents have a welcoming place where they can participate in healthy active living and connect as a community. On behalf of the Township of Plummer Additional, we would like to thank the Government of Ontario and the Ontario Trillium Foundation for the Capital Grant, which provides the Township with the opportunity to further develop our community.”

The Township of Plummer Additional is committed to providing a safe and accessible space for members of the community. If you wish to enquire about using the space for your meeting or hosting an event, please visit the website at: www.plummertownship.ca.
