Candidate Information

Who can be a candidate?

Eligible candidates for municipal elections must be:

  • A Canadian citizen and at least 18 years old 
  • A resident of the municipality, a non-resident owner or tenant of land in the municipality or the spouse of such non-resident owner or tenant
  • Not legally prohibited from voting; and not disqualified by any legislation from holding municipal office.  Candidates are also required to pay a fee of $100 ($200 for head of council) and those running in municipalities with more than 4,000 electors are also required to obtain 25 endorsement signatures when they submit their nomination.

Municipal Council is made up of 1 elected Mayor and 4 elected Councillors.

The Association of Ontario Municipalities is a great resource for prospective candidates. AMO has a number of resources on how local government works and what it is like to serve on a municipal council. They offer a number of training courses for those interested in running for election, including courses focused on new and returning candidates. New Term of Council begins (2026–2030)

The Nomination Period begins May 1, 2026.  Nomination Packages must be filed in person at the Township of Plummer Additional Municipal Office located at 38 Railway Crescent.  Identification that shows your address must be provided at the time of filing your Nomination Package.

The Nomination Period begins May 1, 2026. Nomination Day is Friday, August 21, 2026.

Candidates can submit their nomination package to the Municipal Administration Building:

  • May 1, 2026 to August 20, 2026 between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, excluding holidays; or
  • Friday, August 21, 2026 between 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. (Nomination Day)

REMINDER:

Easter Office Closure

The Township of Plummer Additional Municipal Office will be closed on Good Friday, April 3, 2026  and Easter Monday, April 6, 2026.  Regular office hours will resume at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 7, 2026.
